Italian fashion house Prada unveiled an astronaut undergarment on Sunday (07) developed in partnership with Axiom Space, a company focused on space infrastructure and technology.

The Liquid Cooling and Ventilation Garment sits close to the skin and uses integrated ventilation tubing woven into its fabric, helping astronauts regulate and maintain a stable body temperature during space missions.

The launch event takes place at a Prada store in Manhattan, United States.

Prada Expands Space Industry Role with Artemis Program Spacesuit Collaboration

This new development further extends Prada’s involvement in the space industry, building on its 2024 collaboration with Axiom Space to create a next-generation spacesuit for NASA missions. The suit will be used in the Artemis program, which aims to return humans to the Moon, with Artemis 3 scheduled for 2027 and Artemis 4 planned for 2028.

The intersection of fashion and space exploration is not new, as aerospace design has long influenced fashion collections and branding. However, Prada has moved beyond aesthetic inspiration to actively contributing to the engineering of space-related equipment.

Luxury Brands Tap Into Rising Interest in Space Exploration and Space Tourism

The project also reflects growing interest in space exploration, commercial spaceflight, and lunar missions. Analysts note that such collaborations help luxury brands align themselves with technological innovation while increasing visibility among wealthy consumers drawn to emerging space tourism opportunities.

Private companies such as SpaceX and Blue Origin have already begun developing projects connected to this emerging space market. Other fashion labels are also taking part in similar efforts: Under Armour collaborates with Virgin Galactic on spaceflight apparel, while Columbia Sportswear partners with Intuitive Machines to develop textiles for space applications.

Prada’s project arrives at a challenging moment for the luxury industry, which is still recovering after two years of slower growth amid ongoing global economic and geopolitical uncertainty.
