
Greenvize has unveiled a compact hydrogen-powered cooking stove for both homes and commercial kitchens that can generate its own fuel from water.
The device incorporates a proton exchange membrane (PEM) electrolyzer into a standard stove, enabling users to produce hydrogen whenever needed.
It works by splitting water into hydrogen and oxygen through electrolysis. The hydrogen is used instantly for cooking, while water vapor is emitted as the only byproduct.
Oxygen Byproduct and No External Fuel Dependency
During operation, the stove also releases oxygen, which the company claims may help improve air quality nearby. Importantly, the system operates without the need for external fuel storage or distribution in its basic setup.
According to Greenvize’s director and co-founder Sanjeev Choudhary, producing hydrogen requires about 100 milliliters of distilled or reverse osmosis water and roughly one kilowatt-hour (kWh) of electricity.
This input is enough to support up to six hours of continuous cooking. The unit can also be connected to rooftop solar panels, making it a practical option in areas with unreliable electricity or limited access to gas.
Although the standard system produces and uses hydrogen instantly, Greenvize provides optional storage solutions. These make it possible to generate hydrogen during off-peak times or when solar energy is available, and then use it later when demand is higher.
Flexible Hydrogen Storage Solutions for Diverse Needs
Storage options include high-pressure cylinders operating between 200 and 300 bar, as well as low-pressure buffer tanks for short-term needs. The company notes that these solutions can be tailored to meet specific customer requirements.
Choudhary explained that this system takes a different approach compared to traditional induction cooktops, which may use up to two kilowatts per burner and about 12 kWh over six hours.
Efficient and Durable Hydrogen-to-Fuel Conversion System
By contrast, the hydrogen system turns electricity into fuel that is burned directly. Built with stainless steel and equipped with integrated safety features, the unit is designed for continuous use in demanding environments.
Greenvize is focusing on high-demand settings such as hotels, community kitchens, and rural locations, where dependability and adaptability are crucial.
The single-burner model is priced at $1,128 plus GST, while the double-burner version costs around $1,610 plus GST.
According to the company, the product supports India’s National Green Hydrogen Mission, which aims to promote cleaner and more sustainable energy solutions.
