As we highlighted in our recent review of the Freedo, warmer evenings up north often mean taking entertainment outdoors. ViewSonic’s latest portable projector offers a compact, palm-sized design, enhanced by Harman Kardon audio and mounted on a 360-degree 3-in-1 stand.

The M1 Max reflects this vision by combining high-quality audiovisual performance, seamless streaming, and a sleek design into a highly portable device. Our goal is to empower users to break free from traditional setups and enjoy a flexible big-screen experience wherever life takes them.

Before going into further details, there are a few things to note. Like many portable projectors designed for “modern adventurers and entertainment lovers,” the M1 Max is a 1080p projector. Additionally, similar to many competitors in this space, the light source delivers 500 LED lumens.

Best Suited for Dark Environments with Impressive Longevity

As a result, if you plan to use it in bright environments or for daytime viewing, it may disappoint you. On the other hand, this model is best suited for dark settings. However, one notable advantage is the impressive longevity of the light source, with ViewSonic claiming up to 60,000 hours of use in normal mode.

The company has incorporated its Cinema SuperColor+ technology, promising “true-to-life colors” for screen sizes up to 100 inches diagonally, thanks to a 1.2:1 throw ratio. Entertainment can be streamed via Google TV, with Netflix joining other popular streaming apps like Disney+ and YouTube. For those preferring wired connections, HDMI and USB ports are available. However, the 165-millisecond input latency might make you reconsider using it for console gaming.

The projector sits on a metal stand that provides adjustable projection angles, allowing you to project from a vertical screen to the ceiling. Keystone correction ensures the image stays rectangular, and autofocus keeps everything sharp. The stand also functions as a lens cover during transport, and the projector automatically powers on when adjusted for viewing.

Long Battery Life for On-the-Go Entertainment

The M1 Max comes with three 4,000-mAh batteries, allowing up to 1.5 hours of cable-free entertainment in normal mode or 2 hours in eco mode. For longer playtime, you can use an optional 45-W PD USB power bank.

As mentioned, ViewSonic has partnered with Harman Kardon for powerful audio performance, ideal for outdoor activities. For those who prefer not to disturb the neighbors, there’s a headphone jack or Bluetooth connectivity for wireless listening.

The M1 Max measures 182 x 141 x 62 mm (7.1 x 5.5 x 2.4 inches) when folded and weighs 0.96 kg (2.1 lb).The company expects to launch it in select European markets this month, with Asia following in May.The company has yet to announce pricing or availability in the U.S.
