Dasung Launches First 60-Hz E Ink Monitor to Boost Eye-Friendly Mobile Productivity

E Ink, once known mainly for its use in e-readers, has gradually entered the arena of tablets and computer monitors. However, the technology’s characteristically slow refresh rates have often been a limitation. Dasung has been actively working to overcome this, and now the company has officially released a fast-refresh E Ink display.

Dasung’s Road to 60 Hz

Following last year’s update to its Paperlike Color model – which brought refresh rates up to 33 Hz – Dasung recently unveiled the 13.3-inch Paperlike HD, which pushed that number to 40 Hz. But in February, the company made a major leap with the debut of the “God Level” Paperlike 103 in China, a model that finally hit the long-anticipated 60-Hz refresh rate.

While the international launch was uncertain at first, the appearance of a “coming soon” teaser on Indiegogo hinted at broader availability. However, instead of crowdfunding, Dasung moved directly to selling the product via its online store.

The new Paperlike 103 features a 10.3-inch monochrome E Ink screen, and while it won’t replace a full-size desktop monitor, it’s positioned as a portable second display for laptops, desktops, or smartphones through a USB-C connection. It’s worth noting that Dasung advises users to stick with Windows or Linux, as the display may face compatibility issues with Apple devices.

Designed for portability, the monitor is just 5 mm (0.2 inches) at its slimmest point and comes with a magnetic cover that functions as both a protective case and a stand. Users will get a resolution of 1,872 x 1,404 pixels, a smooth 60-Hz refresh rate, and minimized ghosting thanks to built-in auto-clear features.

While the display includes capacitive touch functionality, Dasung has also integrated physical buttons on the side bezel, offering quick access to settings and controls. The screen is equipped with a front light that can be adjusted for use in both bright and low-light conditions.

High Demand for the First 60-Hz E Ink Monitor

According to the company, this is the world’s first 60-Hz E Ink monitor, and demand has already outpaced supply — the first global production batch has sold out. Customers can now join the waitlist for the second round of units, expected to ship in early June. The Paperlike 103 is priced at US$349.

For users seeking even higher refresh rates, Hannspree offers an alternative with its Hybri monitor. While it doesn’t use E Ink, it provides a paper-like viewing experience using reflective color display technology and ambient lighting, or it can operate like a traditional backlit LCD. The monitor supports refresh rates of up to 75 Hz, although its design favors fixed setups over portable use.
