Epson’s latest home projector looks like a boxy bedside lamp and doubles as ambient lighting with multi-colored reflections from its gimbal stand. Designed as a smart entertainment hub, it features a triple-core engine that enhances 4K image quality and delivers ultra-dynamic contrast.

Epson’s latest home projector looks like a boxy bedside lamp and doubles as ambient lighting with multi-colored reflections from its gimbal stand. Designed as a smart entertainment hub, it features a triple-core engine that enhances 4K image quality and delivers ultra-dynamic contrast.

Smart Ambient Lighting and Visual Display Features

The hybrid projector/lamp features app-controlled ambient light strips for color, brightness, and mode adjustments.While mainly intended for use between viewing sessions, it can also display photo albums or wallpapers from a connected smartphone.

Epson’s 3LCD tech blends red, green, and blue LEDs to project 4K UHD visuals on screens from 30 to 150 inches.

The company added a “light energy recycling system” to improve brightness and reduce noise, but with only 700 lumens, the EF-51 is best for dim or nighttime use.

Vivid Color and High Contrast for Enhanced Viewing

On the plus side, it supports 10-bit color depth and boasts an impressive 5,000,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio, promising improved shadow detail and bright scene clarity.The projector also supports HDR content.

For ease of use, the projector includes autofocus, automatic keystone correction, and four-corner adjustment.A gimbal stand mounts it, allowing 180-degree horizontal and 105-degree vertical rotation for flexible positioning.

The EF-51 operates on Android 13 and offers entertainment through Tencent Video and Aurora TV over a Wi-Fi connection. It supports voice search via the remote and allows wireless screen mirroring. Audio is handled by dual 6-watt Dolby speakers that deliver cinematic soundtracks or function as Bluetooth speakers for music. Users can connect via HDMI, while gamers benefit from fast startup and low-latency mode.

The EF-51 is China-only for now but may launch globally like other EF Series models.The company prices it at ¥5,299 (~US$735).
