A few years back, LG gained attention with the launch of a mobile version of its “wireless private TV,” first introduced in late 2021. LG revealed an enhanced version of the device, the StanbyME 2 smart display, at CES 2025 in January and has now begun its international rollout.
Enhanced Portability with Detachable Design
Like the original StanbyME, LG designed this second-generation model with a rolling stand that features hidden wheels for easy mobility (unlike the 2023 Go variant, which came in a carrying case). This time, LG also allows users to detach the screen from its stand with a single click, making it truly portable.
This flexibility allows the device to serve multiple roles — it can function as a 27-inch touchscreen tablet with a large protective cover and carrying strap, a wall-mounted digital frame in portrait or landscape orientation for displaying artwork or acting as a stylish clock, a flat tabletop game console, or a portable home theater system.

The standout improvement is the upgrade from Full HD to QHD resolution (2,560 x 1,440) with a 60 Hz refresh rate. Built-in side speakers deliver immersive virtual 9.1.2-channel surround sound enhanced by AI and Dolby Audio, offering up to 10 watts of output. The equalizer automatically adjusts depending on the screen’s orientation — whether it’s in portrait, landscape, or laid flat. LG’s Alpha8 AI processor actively optimizes the visuals based on the surrounding light, and the device also supports Dolby Vision.
Battery-Powered for Indoor and Outdoor Use
The StanbyME 2 includes a 4-hour battery, making it suitable for both indoor and outdoor use — though it lacks water and dust resistance, and LG cautions against prolonged sun exposure. Users can charge the device via USB-C, dock it with the stand, or even use a 65-watt power bank for added convenience.
Powered by LG’s WebOS smart platform, the device provides access to popular streaming services via Wi-Fi 5. It also features an HDMI port with eARC for connecting to external media devices. Users can mirror their smartphones using AirPlay or Google Cast, utilize voice search via the ThinQ app, and even connect a webcam to one of the USB ports for video calls.
International Rollout and Pricing Outlook
The StanbyME 2 is beginning its global release in markets like Hong Kong and Türkiye, with upcoming availability in the U.S., Canada, Vietnam, and Singapore later this month.LG plans to launch the device more widely in Europe in August, including in the UK, Germany, France, and Spain. While the company hasn’t announced U.S. pricing yet, the SGD 1,799 listing on its Singapore site suggests a premium price point.
