Georgina Energy Advances Hussar Drilling Plans in Australia

Georgina Energy has completed several important site preparations at its Hussar prospect in Western Australia, bringing the company closer to its planned drilling programme. The work includes installing a 20-inch conductor pipe, completing a water well and upgrading the airstrip used by crews and emergency services.

Major Site Work Completed

The 20-inch conductor pipe now installed and will be cemented into the 26-inch hole. The company says this work should help save time when the drilling rig arrives at the site.

A new water well has also been drilled and is producing a consistent flow rate. This is important because the planned drilling operation will require a reliable water supply. Meanwhile, the drilling and camp areas have been gravelled, rolled and compacted. These improvements are designed to make the site ready for heavy equipment and daily operations.

Hussar Airstrip Gets Important Upgrades

The Hussar airstrip has also received several upgrades. It has been extended to support medical evacuations and crew changes. The entire runway has been rolled and compacted. In addition, an area that was vulnerable to waterlogging has been improved with gravel and further compaction.

Work has also started on the main access road. Gravel is being added to several low areas that can experience flooding. Georgina Energy expects the remaining pre-drilling work to be completed shortly.

A Large Helium and Hydrogen Prospect

The Hussar prospect covers around 330 square kilometres and is located in the Officer Basin in Western Australia. The company is targeting helium, hydrogen and natural gas in deeper geological formations.

According to an independent geological report dated February 1, 2026, Hussar has estimated unrisked 2U prospective resources of 283 billion cubic feet (BCF) of helium, 315 BCF of hydrogen and 2.93 trillion cubic feet (TCF) of hydrocarbon gas. Using the company’s stated commodity prices, these resources have a potential combined in-situ value of approximately US$152 billion.

However, this figure is only an estimate. It does not include costs related to production, processing or transportation. More importantly, prospective resources are not guaranteed to be commercially recovered.

Drilling Could Reach 3,200 Metres

The planned Hussar drilling programme is expected to reach a depth of approximately 3,200 metres. The depth could increase if drilling encounters promising gas occurrences or suitable reservoir conditions.

The main targets are subsalt formations and fractured basement rocks. The company says similar fractured basement reservoirs have produced significant quantities of gas in other parts of the world. A secondary target will focus on hydrocarbon gas in the Kanpa and Hussar formations.

Next Step: Mobilising the Drill Rig

With much of the preparation now complete, Georgina Energy is moving closer to bringing the Ensign 970 drill rig to the Hussar site. The company says the completed civil works, water supply and conductor installation should help speed up the mobilisation process and prepare the prospect for drilling. The upcoming drilling programme will be an important test of Hussar’s potential for helium, hydrogen and natural gas.
