Laser and LED light sources each have their strengths and weaknesses—but Dangbei’s MP1 Max combines both to offer “stunning color accuracy and enhanced viewing comfort.”

XGIMI pioneered the use of dual light source for projectors, after finding that single lasers, while bright, struggled with color accuracy and quality; tri-lasers offered better color but often looked frosty and grainy; and LEDs produced more natural colors but lacked brightness.

The company’s initial hybrid approach combined four LEDs with a single laser, later debuting in the  Horizon 4K Ultra—where, despite its modest 2,300 ISO lumens brightness, I found it delivered impressive onscreen visuals.

The MP1 Max uses QuaLas triple-laser tech and LEDs in a hybrid engine for richer colors, higher brightness, and eye comfort. With brightness boosted to 3,100 ISO lumens, it’s well-suited for daytime or lights-on viewing.

For added eye protection, blue light is filtered at the source. The projector covers 110% of BT.2020 and achieves Delta E < 1 for precise color accuracy.

At its core, a 0.47-inch DLP chip with multi-lens optics delivers 4K UHD visuals on screens from 40 to 300 inches, based on distance and room size.

Versatile Projection and Smart Streaming Features

The MP1 Max’s 1.2:1 throw ratio projects a 100-inch image from 8.9 ft (2.7 m) away. It supports HDR10+ and HLG content, and optional glasses enable 3D viewing.

Running on Google TV, the system offers access to licensed Netflix, Disney+, Prime Video, Hulu, and more. It also supports wireless screen mirroring via Wi-Fi 6 and includes voice search through the Bluetooth remote. Around back, you’ll find USB 2.0 Type-A and HDMI 2.1 ports (including one with audio return), plus a headphone jack.

With curved edges and fabric sides, the projector sits on a gimbal stand for 360° rotation and 135° tilt, allowing flexible placement. AI-assisted setup handles focus, keystone correction, screen fitting, and obstacle adjustment automatically. The stand base houses the power connection.

Powerful Built-In Audio for Immersive Soundscapes

It features dual 12 W speakers and a 750 cc bass chamber, producing cinematic lows down to 45 Hz. It also supports Dolby Audio and DTS Virtual:X for an immersive listening experience.

With HDMI 2.1, the MP1 Max delivers low-latency gaming, 240 Hz at 1080p, and smoother visuals via MEMC. It also features a quiet yet effective cooling system with dual fans, large heat pipes, and thermal insulation.

The projector comes with a durable EPP foam travel case and is listed at US$1,999. Dangbei’s online store currently offers $200 off, with promo code DBMP1MAX (valid through July 7) dropping the price to $1,699.
