Harvard Scientist Suggests That Our Universe Was Developed in a Laboratory

It’s a compelling (and scary) theory

Advanced Civilizations

A Harvard researcher has a fascinating theory concerning just how our universe was formed: in a research laboratory by a superior “class” of lifeform.

Avi Loeb, the bestselling author also the former chair of Harvard’s astronomy department, wrote an op-ed in Scientific American recently positing that the universe might have been developed in a laboratory by an “advanced technological civilization.” If factual, he said the origin story would unify the religious concept of a creator with the secular idea of quantum gravity.

” Since our universe has a flat geometry with a zero net energy, an advanced civilization could have formed a technology that developed a baby universe out of nothing through quantum tunneling,” Loeb wrote.

Class A Civilization

The civilization classification system is among the more intriguing ideas assumed in an article chock full of them. Loeb stated that humans are class C (or a civilization dependent on its host star ) as a low-level technological civilization.

If and when our modern technology advances to the point where we can become independent of the Sun, we would be class B. We would be class A if we could develop our own newborn universes in a laboratory (like our theoretical developers).

Of course, there is a vast number of things in our path– the most significant obstacle being our lack of ability to create a “massive enough density of dark energy within a small region,” stated Loeb. If and when we do ever achieve there, we would certainly be able to join our theoretical creators in class A!

Regardless, the theory is engaging, humbling, and also a little bit frightening. If Loeb’s past concepts are also to be believed, we are most likely not the only ones out there seeking class A status either.
