Thanks to recent advancements in ePaper technology, displays have progressed beyond being limited to e-readers and expanded into the realm of tablets. Onyx International, a leading company in this field, already offers a 13.3-inch monochrome slate and has now introduced a new addition to its range: a 10.3-inch tablet featuring color E Ink technology.

The Boox Tab Ultra C can be seen as a color variant of the company’s Tab Ultra ePaper tablet, which earned an iF design award recently. This updated model incorporates E Ink’s Kaleido 3 color technology, known for its enhanced color richness compared to the Plus variety used in color e-readers like the PocketBook InkPad Color. The device features a touch-enabled 10.3-inch display with a resolution of 1,240 x 930 (150 ppi) for color content, while grayscale content achieves a resolution of 2,480 x 1,860 (300 ppi).

The device incorporates Boox Super Refresh technology to deliver smooth and responsive visuals. It also includes auto-screen rotation functionality and is capable of displaying a wide range of 4,096 colors. Additionally, it features an integrated ComfortGaze front light with adjustable warmth and coolness, making it suitable for nighttime usage.

Powering the device is a Qualcomm octa-core processor and an “exclusive GPU,” providing the necessary processing capabilities. It is further supported by 4 GB of RAM and offers ample storage with 128 GB of internal UFS 2.1 storage, expandable via a microSD card. Additionally, users can enjoy 10 GB of free cloud storage by creating an Onyx account, although the tablet is also compatible with third-party cloud services and synchronization options.

Android 11

The device comes pre-installed with Android 11 and offers support for various document formats such as PDF, DOCX, EPUB, RTF, and HTML. It is also compatible with major image formats and supports audio playback in WAV and MP3 formats. Notably, it features dual speakers and dual microphones for enhanced audio capabilities.

The tablet is equipped with dual-band Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 5.0 for connectivity. To ensure prolonged usage without the need for frequent charging, it is equipped with a sizable 6,300-mAh LiPo battery; however, specific battery life estimates have not been disclosed.

The E Ink tablet is equipped with a 16-megapixel rear camera designed for document scanning purposes. It is also compatible with third-party photo/scanning applications, offering users versatile options for effortlessly capturing and managing documents. The tablet comes bundled with the Pen2 Pro stylus, which provides a remarkable 4,096 levels of pressure sensitivity and includes a built-in eraser feature for added convenience.
