Spotify is updating its Discover Weekly playlist, the popular feature that delivers personalized music every Monday. Since 2015, Discover Weekly has been a go-to for millions exploring new music tailored to their tastes. Spotify is refreshing the playlist to make music discovery more intuitive and customizable.
Spotify Adds Genre Filters to Discover Weekly
Ten years after its launch, Discover Weekly now lets Premium users guide recommendations by genre. If you’re into 80s rock but exploring K-pop, genre filters help steer the algorithm accordingly.

The goal of this feature is to give users more say in the type of new music they’d like to discover through their Discover Weekly playlists.
Spotify says listeners have played over 100 billion tracks through Discover Weekly, with 77% of those streams coming from up-and-coming artists.
How to Access the New Discover Weekly Genre Filters
Spotify Premium users can find the updated Discover Weekly by heading to the “Made for You” hub and opening their Discover Weekly playlist. If they’ve installed the latest version of the app, they’ll see the new genre filter options available there.
Spotify now lets listeners have more control over its recommendation algorithms. Spotify’s new queue shows its recommendations, letting users decide what to keep ahead of time. It also added a new ‘snooze’ option that lets users mute songs they’re tired of for 30 days without deleting them permanently.
