With the newly announced Alexa+ experience, Amazon’s smart assistant can now navigate movies on Prime Video for users. Through its integration with Prime Video and Fire TV, Alexa+ enables seamless scene-jumping without the need for manual fast-forwarding.
Alexa+ Demonstrates Seamless Movie Navigation
At a press event in New York, Amazon showcased the new feature by asking Alexa+ about a movie in which Bradley Cooper sings a song. After identifying the film as A Star Is Born, Alexa+ then allowed the user to skip directly to the scene where he performs.

Amazon explains that users can direct Alexa+ to the right scene using details such as the actor’s or character’s name, a quote, or other contextual cues.
Alexa+ Can Identify Songs from TV Show Credits
Alexa+ users can also ask the assistant to identify a song played during a TV show’s credits, even if they don’t know the title or artist, according to Amazon.
However, this feature is part of a broader set of Alexa+ upgrades designed to enhance smart home integration.
Users can now transfer music between rooms, receive summaries of household events (such as whether the trash was taken out), and create multi-step automation routines using voice commands.
At a New York event on Wednesday, Amazon introduced Alexa+, an enhanced version of its AI assistant powered by generative AI. Amazon’s devices and services chief, Panos Panay, described it as a “complete re-architecture” of Alexa.
Panay emphasized that while Alexa’s vision has always been ambitious, technological limitations previously held it back. He noted that a standard AI chatbot alone couldn’t fulfill Alexa’s full potential.
Alexa’s Enhanced Personalization and Task Assistance
The upgraded Alexa can pull data from a user’s Amazon account to answer personalized questions like “How many books have I read this year?” It can also provide notifications, such as concert ticket availability, and assist with tasks like booking dinner reservations.
Designed to integrate deeply into users’ lives, the new Alexa remembers schedules, smart home settings, preferences, connected devices, and entertainment habits. It also features visual understanding, using a device’s camera to analyze video feeds and respond accordingly.
Panay highlighted Alexa’s ability to recognize tone and surroundings, adjusting its responses dynamically. “She’s trained in different ways—EQ, humor, understanding,” he explained. “If I’m nervous, she tries to calm me.”
Beyond routine tasks like generating quizzes and planning trips, Alexa+ can offer personalized recommendations, such as finding the best pizza nearby, by leveraging its memory and learned user preferences.
Visual Upgrades and Personalized Displays with Alexa+
The upgraded Alexa includes a visual component, particularly on Amazon’s Echo Show smart displays. Alexa+ enhances photo galleries and personalized content feeds, featuring a new “For You” panel that provides timely updates and widgets like smart home controls.
Seamlessly integrated with Amazon’s smart home ecosystem, Alexa+ allows users to play music from Amazon Music on connected devices or skip to specific scenes on Fire TV with voice commands. It can also summarize footage from Ring security cameras, identifying key moments and describing scenes. “She’s your virtual security guard,” Panos Panay remarked.
Amazon is positioning Alexa+ as more than just a virtual assistant—it’s also a productivity tool. Users will be able to upload files, documents, and emails for Alexa to analyze and reference in the future. For instance, a user might ask, “I forwarded a work schedule—are there any important events?” and Alexa will highlight key details. However, Amazon has yet to clarify how users will upload these files.
Beyond reading files, Alexa+ can take action on them, such as adding text from a document to a calendar or setting reminders based on email content.
While Amazon claims Alexa+ is highly accurate, AI-generated responses can be unpredictable. Whether these claims hold up will become clear when the new Alexa experience launches later this year.
