Threads, Meta’s alternative to X, has introduced a standalone Hidden Words setting, independent from Instagram. This feature lets users filter out specific words, phrases, or emojis from appearing in feeds, search results, profiles, and replies.
Previously, Instagram linked Hidden Words settings to Threads, applying any filters to both platforms. Now, Threads allows users to create a separate Hidden Words list, enabling more personalized content filtering on Threads without altering their Instagram experience.
Threads Adds Temporary Filter Option with Up to 30-Day Expiry
Threads also introduced the ability to set time limits on filters, allowing users to temporarily block specific words, phrases, or emojis. Filters can now be set to expire after up to 30 days, offering a “snooze” option for content you may want to see again later.

For instance, this feature is useful if you want to avoid spoilers for a TV show you’re behind on, but still want to see related posts once you’ve caught up.
Threads Moves Toward Independence with Standalone DM Inbox and New Features
This update follows Threads’ recent test of a standalone DM inbox, separate from Instagram’s. Together, these changes suggest Meta is gradually positioning Threads as a more independent platform apart from Instagram.
As Threads continues to compete with X, it has been consistently introducing new features. Most recently, the platform added the ability to view posts from other users on the fediverse in a dedicated feed, along with search functionality for fediverse profiles directly within Threads.
Additionally, Threads is testing spoiler tags and now lets creators share links from their profiles and track click performance.
