Aiming to add a dirt-bike vibe to eFoiling, Unifoil has launched an updated version of its handlebar-controlled electric watercraft. The video suggests it’s almost too much fun to be legal on the water.

Revolutionizing Electric Hydrofoiling for Beginners

In 2021, South African company Unifoil introduced the Hydroflyer, a groundbreaking consumer electric hydrofoiling board. Rather than requiring riders to balance like surfers as the board gains speed, they added a handlebar for better stability and control. The goal was to help beginners enjoy a more successful experience while also enabling them to perform more daring tricks as they gained confidence (catch the pun?).

The company is back with an updated version of the original design, the Hydroflyer Sport, aimed at more experienced riders. The most striking change is the transition from the V-shaped front nose to a shorter, snub-nosed design.

The iconic V-nose of the Cruiser is gone, but while it sacrifices some water-piercing ability, it gains an ultra-light swing weight and a clear view of the water below,” says the company. “The outcome? A ride that’s quicker, more responsive, and designed for riders seeking a thrilling, high-energy experience.

Enhanced Performance for Advanced Riders

The Sport also comes with a smaller foil compared to the original, which, according to the company, delivers a more aggressive ride and allows advanced riders to perform more tricks and carve through waves with greater ease.

The new Hydroflyer model features a carbon fiber frame and a 2.45-KwH lithium-ion battery, offering 1.5 to 3 hours of runtime based on rider intensity. Like the original, riders can remove the handlebars for a surfer-style ride.

The Sport is priced at US$15,995 on the company’s website, the same as the original Hydroflyer. Beginners might prefer the original model, as it offers a more stable ride and customizable foils tailored to a rider’s skill level. The Sport, on the other hand, is ideal for experienced riders looking to take their foiling to the next level. It’s also slightly smaller, measuring 5.5 ft (about 1.7 m), making it a good option for smaller riders or those wanting to carry less gear.
