DJI, a leading name in consumer drones, has unveiled the Mini 5 Pro. Touted as the world’s first palm-sized drone to feature a one-inch image sensor, the newcomer also arrives with a host of enticing upgrades.
Different needs for different flyers
When it comes to drones, size matters in more than one way. For casual flyers, a pocket-friendly model that follows pre-set paths, returns safely if something goes wrong, and doesn’t need advanced gear like goggles might be enough—options such as DJI’s Flip or the HoverAir X1 Promax fit the bill here.
For professionals or anyone seeking top-tier visuals, larger and pricier models like the Mavic 4 Pro typically dominate. But until now, only these bigger drones carried sensors an inch or larger. With the Mini 5 Pro, DJI brings pro-level imaging to a lightweight, handheld aircraft that’s easy for anyone to operate.

The new one-inch CMOS sensor promises professional-grade shots, even in low light. It records video at 4K/60fps with up to 14 stops of dynamic range and can ramp up to 4K/120fps for slow-motion clips. Intelligent imaging modes and onboard processing enhance footage on the fly, aiming for cinematic quality straight out of the camera.
Among its new tricks is a 48-mm Med-Tele zoom mode, an improved portrait optimization feature, and a gimbal that supports 225° roll rotation. DJI’s “True Vertical Shooting” enables portrait-oriented footage without post-editing, while ActiveTrack 360° boosts tracking accuracy, agility, and safety.
Collision-avoidance technology
To help avoid collisions, the Mini 5 Pro packs forward-facing LiDAR sensors, fisheye lenses front and back, plus bottom-facing binocular lenses and a 3D infrared sensor—all designed to keep it safe, even at night.

DJI
Compact yet capable, the drone measures just 157 × 95 × 68 mm (6.2 x 3.7 x 2.6 in) when folded and 255 × 181 × 91 mm (10 x 7 x 3.5 in) when unfolded. It weighs under 250 grams but delivers up to 36 minutes of flight with the standard battery, or 52 minutes with the Intelligent Flight Battery Plus, reaching as far as 32 km (20 miles).
In Europe, the Mini 5 Pro retails for €809 with a controller, while the €1,019 bundle adds three extra batteries, a charging hub, and a shoulder bag. However, DJI confirmed it will not officially launch in the United States for now, citing adjustments to its regional strategy.
