Saudi Arabia has just completed another remarkable luxury retreat, advancing its bid to become a top tourist destination.” Called Shebara Resort, the project showcases a series of pod-shaped villas that glisten over the Red Sea.

Shebara Resort Blends Futuristic Design with Secluded Access by Seaplane

Designed by Killa Design (of Dubai’s Museum of the Future) with interiors by Studio Paolo Ferrari, Shebara Resort lies off Tabuk’s coast and is reachable only by seaplane.

The resort includes 73 villas in total—38 built over the water and 35 on land. The overwater villas stand out with their sleek, futuristic stainless steel pod design. “Though they seem to float, a hidden support structure actually cantilevers them.

Described as “a majestic string of pearls,” the sea villas offer up to two bedrooms for a small family. The larger land villas offer up to four bedrooms, hosting eight adults and four children.

Viewed head-on, the orbs shimmer like a mirage, vanishing into the horizon,” notes the resort. With reflective bases and sky-mirroring roofs, the overwater villas hover above the waves near vibrant coral gardens. Positioned over 50 meters [164 ft] from the reef, slender columns support them to protect the lagoon’s fragile ecosystem.

Off-Grid Power and Water Systems Enhance Shebara’s Eco-Friendly Appeal

Due to its remote setting, the resort features its own desalination facility for fresh water and a solar farm for power. Notably, the solar panels are arranged in a circular formation that guests can walk or bike through, offering an up-close look at the resort’s sustainable infrastructure.

As anticipated, the resort offers a wide range of upscale amenities and experiences, including gourmet restaurants, a fitness center, a spa and wellness area, along with activities such as snorkeling and windsurfing. Nightly rates begin at SAR 9,000 (around US$2,400).
