Swisslog Healthcare announced a strategic partnership yesterday with Diligent Robotics, the creator of the Moxie hospital robot. Together, they aim to deploy autonomous last-mile delivery robots in hospitals throughout the U.S.

This partnership integrates Diligent Robotics’ autonomous mobile manipulation robots (AMMRs) with Swisslog Healthcare’s transport and pharmacy automation solutions. The companies stated their joint efforts will help streamline hospital workflows, automate routine tasks, and support hospital pharmacies in enhancing patient care.

“Our partnership with Diligent Robotics strengthens our automation portfolio and supports our mission to drive meaningful improvements in patient care,” said Cory Kwarta, president and CEO of Swisslog Healthcare. “Integrating last-mile delivery robots reflects our dedication to innovation and meeting the changing needs of our customers.”

Swisslog Healthcare added that by combining automation, smart software, and value-added services, it helps healthcare providers respond to patient needs more efficiently and accurately. The company, headquartered in Buchs, Switzerland, also stated that its solutions reduce operational waste, enabling providers to boost both productivity and care quality.

Robots to Supplement Pneumatic Tube Systems in Hospitals

The partners highlighted that analysts project the service robotics market to grow by 15% to 18% annually over the next three to five years.

“Through this collaboration, both companies aim to meet the increasing need for efficient, comprehensive hospital logistics solutions that enhance operational performance and free up healthcare staff to concentrate more on patient care,” stated Diligent Robotics.

Swisslog Healthcare stated that the partnership will enhance its position as a leader in healthcare transport automation by integrating Diligent Robotics’ AMMRs with existing pneumatic tube systems from its subsidiary, TransLogic. The company also noted that the robots will improve tracking and tracing of items moved within hospitals.

Furthermore, Swisslog and Diligent said the collaboration will tackle last-mile deliveries and enable the transport of items that are too large or delicate for pneumatic tubes, such as medical samples.

“Our customers have been seeking dependable, efficient last-mile delivery robots that fit smoothly into their existing operations,” said Ray Castro, director of strategic programs for transport automation at Swisslog Healthcare. “This collaboration with Diligent Robotics enables us to offer a trusted, proven solution for smarter, safer deliveries that both staff and patients can rely on.” Castro will oversee the coordination of Swisslog’s initiatives with Diligent Robotics.

Diligent’s Moxi Robot Supports Swisslog Healthcare’s Mission

Diligent Robotics reported that its Moxi robot is currently in use at over 25 hospitals across the U.S. and has successfully completed more than 1 million deliveries, including 300,000 from hospital pharmacies. The Austin, Texas-based company emphasized that Moxi’s strong performance in fast-paced healthcare environments aligns with Swisslog Healthcare’s mission to improve operational efficiency in clinical settings.

“We’re raising the bar for healthcare logistics through our partnership with Swisslog Healthcare,” said Dr. Andrea Thomaz, co-founder and CEO of Diligent Robotics. “Their extensive reach, trusted reputation, and decades of expertise in pharmacy automation make them the perfect partner to scale our autonomous delivery robots across health systems.”

Since its launch in 2017, Diligent Robotics has been dedicated to pushing the boundaries of healthcare automation through its Moxi robot. The company has also logged over 100,000 autonomous elevator trips.

Editor’s Note: Vivian Chu, co-founder and chief innovation officer at Diligent Robotics, is scheduled to speak at RoboBusiness 2025, taking place on October 15–16 at the Santa Clara Convention Center. Her session will explore how Moxi leverages real-time adaptation, vision-language agents, and behavior tree recovery to navigate and perform in complex, human-centered environments.

RoboBusiness, the leading event for commercial robotics developers and suppliers, will be held alongside DeviceTalks West, a conference focused on the medical device industry. Registration is currently open.
