Optoma introduced a notable ultra-short-throw projector for Europe in February. Now, additional details and U.S. pricing have been revealed for the battery-powered Photon Go tri-laser entertainment system.

“Modern consumers want premium home entertainment that adapts to their lifestyle without sacrificing image quality, audio, or performance,” said Maria Repole, Optoma’s Head of Marketing. “From living rooms and dorms to apartments, gyms, or on the move, we designed the Photon Go to deliver impressive entertainment anytime, anywhere.

Affordable Triple-Laser Technology for Vivid Visuals

This UST projector stands out for several reasons, especially its surprisingly affordable price despite housing a triple-laser light source. It uses separate red, green, and blue lasers for richer, more vivid visuals than single-beam projectors.

    Optoma

Optoma rates the projector’s brightness at just 650 lumens (measured using ISO 21118 standards), which means it performs best in darker settings. However, due to the Helmholtz–Kohlrausch effect—where highly saturated colors can appear brighter—users might perceive brightness levels up to 1,200 lumens.

Vivid, Large-Scale Projection with Rich Color and Contrast

It projects 1080p visuals up to 100 inches from under 10 inches away, with 110% BT.2020 coverage, 2,500,000:1 contrast, and HDR10/HLG support.

True to its name, the Photon Go features a built-in battery, making it far more portable than most UST projectors. Perfect for backyard movies, camping (at 3.8 lb/1.7 kg), or visits to friends.

Image Credits:The Photon Go runs Google TV to serve your streaming entertainment needs
    Optoma

The battery lasts 1.5 hours for video or 4 hours as a Bluetooth speaker. It’s also TSA-compliant, making it travel-friendly if you want to take it on vacation. Setup is simple thanks to autofocus and automatic keystone correction.

Smart Streaming and Casual Gaming Capabilities

The Photon Go runs Google TV over Wi-Fi, giving users access to Netflix, Disney+, Prime Video, and other streaming apps. Voice search is available via the remote, and screen casting is supported through Google Cast. Casual gamers can plug in via HDMI, but 27.1 ms lag may hinder fast-paced play.

Sound is delivered through a built-in 20-W Dolby Audio system, and there’s an S/PDIF out for connecting to higher-end audio setups. Measuring 9.92 x 6.18 x 2.44 inches (252 x 157 x 62 mm), this compact tri-laser UST projector is now available for $999 at Amazon and B&H Photo.

  • Hisense Debuts Ultra-Compact 4K Laser Projector

Hisense Debuts Ultra-Compact 4K Laser Projector

The Hisense M2 Pro Laser Mini Projector represents a paradigm shift in portable home cinema”
    Hisense

Hisense has introduced what it calls its most compact, lightweight, and portable laser projector to date. The new M2 Pro is a smart mini projector featuring RGB laser technology that can project 4K images up to 200 inches, with integrated Dolby-certified speakers for sound.

    Breakthrough in Laser Miniaturization

According to the company, the key innovation in the M2 Pro lies in the miniaturization of its triple-laser engine, which enabled the development of an extremely compact and lightweight design—making true 4K laser projection genuinely portable for the first time in the brand’s history.

The light source uses three separate lasers—one for each primary color (red, green, and blue)—that are merged before being projected through the lens. The device delivers up to 1,200 ANSI lumens, which suggests it performs best in darker environments.

The Hisense M2 Pro smart mini projector rocks triple-laser power, boasts easy setup indoors or out, and can manage 150-inch 4K visuals at a 1-1.3:1 throw ratio
    Hisense

Powered by a 0.47-inch DMD chip, the DLP projection system delivers 4K UHD resolution (3,840 x 2,160 pixels) on screens up to 200 inches diagonally.Users must place the projector at least 4.4 meters (14.5 feet) from the projection surface to achieve that size, using a throw ratio of 1 to 1.3:1 and taking advantage of its optical zoom capabilities.

    Smart Features and Image Optimization

Hisense has also packed in a variety of technologies to enhance picture quality, including a 4K upscaler, HDR enhancement, and AI-based noise reduction. Setup is made easy with features like autofocus, automatic keystone correction, and obstacle-avoidance image resizing. Additionally, the projector adjusts colors based on the wall it’s projecting on, so you don’t need a perfectly white surface.

The Dolby Vision entertainment hub boasts an impressive Delta E color accuracy of 0.9 and covers 110% of the BT.2020 color space. The native contrast ratio is 1,000:1, complemented by AI-driven dynamic contrast that enhances dark and bright areas for a more immersive experience. The model also supports HDR10+ and HLG content.

The M2 Pro features autofocus, auto keystone correction, object avoidance and more for easy setup
    Hisense

In terms of connectivity, the M2 Pro features dual-band Wi-Fi, Ethernet port, and runs the VIDAA Smart OS, providing access to popular streaming platforms like Netflix, Prime Video, and Disney+. Wireless screen mirroring is also supported. For wired connections, it includes HDMI and USB ports. The included Bluetooth remote offers voice control as well.

    Immersive Audio and Gaming Enhancements

The built-in audio system delivers 20 watts of power with dedicated tweeters and woofers, supporting Dolby Atmos and DTS Virtual:X for immersive sound. Gamers will appreciate the 240 Hz refresh rate (in Full HD), automatic low latency mode that brings input lag down to 12 milliseconds, and motion compensation technology.

    Flexible Placement, No Internal Battery

The projector sits on a gimbal stand that allows for flexible tilt angles. Despite its relatively compact size—418 x 296 x 282 mm (16.4 x 11.6 x 11.1 in)—it does not have a built-in battery, so users will need to plan for nearby power outlets.

The M2 Pro is currently available for pre-order at US$1,299, with general availability expected later this year.

    Nebula

Anker has unveiled its new outdoor projector, the Nebula X1, which promises cinema-quality brightness, easy setup, and immersive sound, all for $3,000.

The X1 features a triple-laser system, with separate lasers for red, green, and blue, each designed to last 30,000 hours. It’s paired with a 14-element glass lens capable of delivering an impressive 3,500 ANSI lumens, making it ideal for daytime outdoor viewing.

Immersive 4K UHD Projection with Flexible Setup and Motorized Zoom

The X1 delivers 4K UHD output on screens as large as 200 inches from a distance of 13 to 22 feet (4 to 6.7 meters) with a 0.9:1 to 1.5:1 throw ratio. It features motorized optical zoom, allowing you to adjust the picture size without moving the projector. The lens is mounted on a micro gimbal with sensors, enabling it to tilt vertically by 25 degrees for precise throw angle adjustments.

Credit: The X1 features AI chops and a micro gimbal to tilt the lens up to 25 degrees to automatically set itself up based on your projection surface of choice
    Nebula

It also features AI technology that automatically adjusts the image for optimal position and size based on the projection surface, adapts visuals for wall color, and handles keystone correction independently. You can save settings like size and viewing preferences for different rooms, and easily recall them the next time you set up the projector in those spaces.

Stunning Visuals with Dolby Vision, Wide Color Gamut, and Heat-Resistant Glass Lens

The X1 is compatible with Dolby Vision content, offers 110% coverage of the Rec.2020 color gamut, and provides exceptional detail in dark scenes thanks to its 5,000:1 native contrast ratio. Additionally, Anker notes that the glass lens is heat-resistant and won’t blur the image after prolonged use, unlike resin lenses.

The company has incorporated a liquid cooling system into this 13.7-pound (6.7-kg) projector for improved heat dissipation. Anker claims that this groundbreaking feature makes the projector lighter and quieter compared to one with a traditional fan cooling system.

Credit: Anker says this is the first-ever projector with a liquid cooling setup inside
    Nebula

The audio experience is also quite impressive. The projector features a built-in speaker system with dual tweeters, a full-range speaker, and a passive radiator, producing 40 W of sound. Additionally, you can wirelessly pair it with lossless speakers for 4.1.2 surround sound. Each satellite speaker has four drivers and provides up to 8 hours of playtime on a single charge. Since they connect via Wi-Fi, you’ll get minimal 25 ms latency within a 100 ft (30 m) range.

    Nebula

The projector promises quick one-tap setup, runs Google TV and the boatload of streaming apps on the platform, and supports voice commands as well as a good ol’ physical remote and a mobile app to control it. You’ll also find physical buttons on the device itself, along with two HDMI 2.1 ports for 4K at 60 Hz, USB Type-A and Type-C ports, and a 3.5-mm audio jack.

Credit: You’ll find a nice selection of ports on the Nebula X1, including HDMI 2.1 for 4K output at 60 Hz

Convenient Features and Considerations: Portability, 3D Support, and Karaoke Options

There are a few other convenient features to enjoy, such as a pop-up handle for easy portability. However, this model doesn’t have an internal battery, so you’ll need to consider connecting it to a wall outlet. It also supports 3D, provided you have DLP Link 3D glasses and compatible content, as well as optional wireless microphones for karaoke. The latter is a feature you don’t often find on a projector.

The X1 will be available for purchase starting May 21, priced at $3,000 for the projector alone. A bundle that includes two satellite speakers, two microphones, and a carrying case is expected to be priced at $4,000. However, by signing up with your email on Nebula’s product page, you can get up to $700 off the bundle.

Credit: This bundle with two wireless speakers, two karaoke mics, and a carrying case can be had for a discounted price of $3,200 with an early order
    Nebula

At that price, it’s considerably more expensive than  the $2,000 Nebula Cosmos Laser 4K, which has received positive reviews. JMGO’s gimbal-mounted N1S Ultimate offers some similar specs at $2,800,, and there’s also a more affordable a 4K budget option in this lineup. On the other hand,  HiSense offers its C2 Ultra priced  just under $2,500. So, while there are several alternatives in this category, the Nebula is worth considering if you’re particularly interested in a very bright display and wireless audio.

Smart Projector With Stand Streams Netflix In Full HD For Under $200

The Dangbei N2 mini offers 1080p streaming entertainment for those on a budget
    Dangbei

Dangbei has just launched a compact Full HD smart projector in the US, which comes mounted on a gimbal-style stand, allowing one-handed image adjustments over a 190-degree range. The model, called the N2 mini, supports popular apps like Netflix and Prime Video, can project visuals up to 120 inches, and features Dolby sound – all at a very attractive price point.

Portable Design – With a Catch

Although it’s marketed as portable, the N2 mini doesn’t have a built-in battery, unlike the company’s Freedo model. This means it needs to be plugged into a power outlet during use. On the plus side, it comes with its own articulated stand, which makes it easy to tilt the image from floor to ceiling and anywhere in between.

Setting up the image is simplified with features like auto-focus, auto keystone correction, screen fitting, and resizing to avoid obstacles. The sealed optical system prevents dust from affecting the image quality. It can project Full HD visuals up to 120 inches diagonally with a 1.25:1 throw ratio, though the recommended sweet spot is around 100 inches.

The Dangbei N2 mini can throw Full HD visuals at up to 120 inches
    Dangbei

It’s worth noting that the LED light outputs only 200 ISO lumens, making it best suited for use in dark rooms or nighttime sessions. The system runs on a Linux-based platform, supported by 1 GB of RAM and 8 GB of internal storage, offering access to nearly 300 apps. Wi-Fi 6 ensures smooth streaming, while Bluetooth allows control via the included remote.

As for connectivity, the projector includes HDMI and USB ports on the back. Sound comes from a 6-watt speaker system with Dolby support, and there’s also a 3.5 mm headphone jack for private viewing.

While there are more powerful compact projectors out there, the N2 mini is an appealing option for casual night-time streamers looking for a simple, affordable solution. The regular price is $229, but during the launch promotion, it’s available for just $179.

    ViewSonic

As we highlighted in our recent review of the Freedo, warmer evenings up north often mean taking entertainment outdoors. ViewSonic’s latest portable projector offers a compact, palm-sized design, enhanced by Harman Kardon audio and mounted on a 360-degree 3-in-1 stand.

    ViewSonic’s Vision for Revolutionizing Entertainment

Dean Tsai, a representative of the company, said, “At ViewSonic, we dedicate ourselves to revolutionizing entertainment through user-focused innovations, blending technology with modern lifestyles.”

The M1 Max reflects this vision by combining high-quality audiovisual performance, seamless streaming, and a sleek design into a highly portable device. Our goal is to empower users to break free from traditional setups and enjoy a flexible big-screen experience wherever life takes them.

The M1 Max projector’s light source is rated for 500 LED lumens, so you’ll need low ambient light if you want to create a virtual window with tropical views
    ViewSonic

Before going into further details, there are a few things to note. Like many portable projectors designed for “modern adventurers and entertainment lovers,” the M1 Max is a 1080p projector. Additionally, similar to many competitors in this space, the light source delivers 500 LED lumens.

Best Suited for Dark Environments with Impressive Longevity

As a result, if you plan to use it in bright environments or for daytime viewing, it may disappoint you. On the other hand, this model is best suited for dark settings. However, one notable advantage is the impressive longevity of the light source, with ViewSonic claiming up to 60,000 hours of use in normal mode.

    ViewSonic

The company has incorporated its Cinema SuperColor+ technology, promising “true-to-life colors” for screen sizes up to 100 inches diagonally, thanks to a 1.2:1 throw ratio. Entertainment can be streamed via Google TV, with Netflix joining other popular streaming apps like Disney+ and YouTube. For those preferring wired connections, HDMI and USB ports are available. However, the 165-millisecond input latency might make you reconsider using it for console gaming.

The projector sits on a metal stand that provides adjustable projection angles, allowing you to project from a vertical screen to the ceiling. Keystone correction ensures the image stays rectangular, and autofocus keeps everything sharp. The stand also functions as a lens cover during transport, and the projector automatically powers on when adjusted for viewing.

Portable Smart Projector Brings Streamed Movies On The Go

The integrated gimbal stand allows the Play 6 to move the visuals over 360 degrees for maximum positioning flexibility
    XGIMI/iF Design

XGIMI, a Chinese projector manufacturer, has unveiled a preview of its new projector, the MoGo 3 Pro’s successor, the Play 6. Building on the tubular design, the Play 6 introduces a larger battery, a new gimbal stand, and a slightly brighter display.

Impressive Portability and Competitiveness in the Market

Launched today in China, XGIMI’s latest 1080p projector could potentially adopt the MoGo name for international markets, should it expand globally. With its 20,000-mAh battery offering 2.5 hours of runtime, the Play 6 outshines Samsung’s Freestyle 2 in terms of portability, positioning itself as a competitor to Dangbei’s Freedo model.

The Play 6 also appears to be the brightest option in this category, delivering 500 ISO lumens. In comparison, the Freestyle offers 230 ANSI lumens, and the Freedo reaches 450 ISO lumens. While this brightness may struggle against direct sunlight or strong overhead lighting, it should perform well in a dark room with its Full HD big-screen visuals.

The Play 6 portable Full HD smart projector features a 20,000-mAh battery for 2.5 hours of play time away from the wall socket
    XGIMI/iF Design

If XGIMI releases the Play 6 outside of China, it will likely replace the GMUI 6.0 operating system with Google TV, similar to the MoGo 3 Pro, which runs on Google’s streaming platform. The projector offers connectivity through 802.11ac dual-band Wi-Fi, and users can also connect devices via HDMI 2.1 or USB.

This DLP projector covers 124% of the Rec.709 color gamut, supports HDR10/HLG content, and includes features like auto keystone correction and autofocus. It is SGS-certified for low blue light. The projector also has two 6-W speakers tuned by Harman Kardon for a mobile movie soundtrack. Additional features include low input lag for gaming, motion compensation for smoother action scenes, and AirPlay for screen sharing.

Smart Features and Design for Easy Setup and Use

XGIMI’s new smart projector comes with a mini Bluetooth remote, featuring AI voice recognition and attached to a lanyard that slots into the integrated stand. The stand provides 360-degree adjustment for flexible setups, and it also has a base with a colorful ring light that reacts to sound.

The Play 6 measures 96.5 x 96.5 x 207.6 mm (3.8 x 3.8 x 8.2 in) and weighs 1.31 kg (2.8 lb). It also includes a unique lens attachment that can transform the projector into a mood light. Currently, China offers the Play 6 for 2099 yuan (about $290), and experts expect the international price to be higher if the projector is released globally.
