Optoma introduced a notable ultra-short-throw projector for Europe in February. Now, additional details and U.S. pricing have been revealed for the battery-powered Photon Go tri-laser entertainment system.

Affordable Triple-Laser Technology for Vivid Visuals
This UST projector stands out for several reasons, especially its surprisingly affordable price despite housing a triple-laser light source. It uses separate red, green, and blue lasers for richer, more vivid visuals than single-beam projectors.

Optoma rates the projector’s brightness at just 650 lumens (measured using ISO 21118 standards), which means it performs best in darker settings. However, due to the Helmholtz–Kohlrausch effect—where highly saturated colors can appear brighter—users might perceive brightness levels up to 1,200 lumens.
Vivid, Large-Scale Projection with Rich Color and Contrast
It projects 1080p visuals up to 100 inches from under 10 inches away, with 110% BT.2020 coverage, 2,500,000:1 contrast, and HDR10/HLG support.
True to its name, the Photon Go features a built-in battery, making it far more portable than most UST projectors. Perfect for backyard movies, camping (at 3.8 lb/1.7 kg), or visits to friends.

The battery lasts 1.5 hours for video or 4 hours as a Bluetooth speaker. It’s also TSA-compliant, making it travel-friendly if you want to take it on vacation. Setup is simple thanks to autofocus and automatic keystone correction.
Smart Streaming and Casual Gaming Capabilities
The Photon Go runs Google TV over Wi-Fi, giving users access to Netflix, Disney+, Prime Video, and other streaming apps. Voice search is available via the remote, and screen casting is supported through Google Cast. Casual gamers can plug in via HDMI, but 27.1 ms lag may hinder fast-paced play.
Sound is delivered through a built-in 20-W Dolby Audio system, and there’s an S/PDIF out for connecting to higher-end audio setups. Measuring 9.92 x 6.18 x 2.44 inches (252 x 157 x 62 mm), this compact tri-laser UST projector is now available for $999 at Amazon and B&H Photo.
