Electric vehicles offer a more environmentally friendly option for transportation compared to traditional gas-powered cars. However, the production and distribution of electric vehicles still have room for improvement in terms of eco-friendliness. Swedish startup Luvly aims to address this issue with its recyclable and flat-pack urban vehicle known as the Luvly O.

To clarify, the Luvly O is not assembled by the user, unlike furniture from Ikea.

Efficient Assembly Model for Reduced Emissions and Shipping Costs

Instead, the vehicle will be shipped in a flat-pack configuration from a central production facility and then put together by workers at smaller micro-factories in the specific regions where the O will be available. This approach is expected to significantly lower both greenhouse gas emissions and shipping expenses by enabling the transportation of a larger quantity of vehicles in a single shipment.

The Luvly O’s dashboard is very simple and uncluttered, as an app on a connected smartphone is used to adjust vehicle settings, play back music, and view information such as charge level

The O was conceived by Joachim Nordwall, formerly the design chief at the Swedish hypercar manufacturer Koenigsegg. Consequently, it integrates what Luvly terms “slow formula racing technology.” This technology encompasses a robust yet lightweight safety shell for passenger protection, constructed from an undisclosed sandwich composite material. It also includes external Energy Absorption Zones that deform to absorb impact energy.

Sustainable Shell Material and Modular Component Replacement

The material used for the shell doesn’t necessitate any paint or surface treatments and is entirely recyclable. Furthermore, the vehicle is designed to facilitate the straightforward replacement of its various components as required.

The Luvly O measures 270 cm long by 153 cm wide by 144 cm high (106.3 by 60.2 by 56.7 in)

The entire vehicle reportedly weighs less than 400 kg (about 882 pounds), excluding its two detachable lithium battery packs. These packs are used one at a time, allowing one to charge while the other is in use, either at home or in a workplace.

Performance and Efficiency Features of the O Electric Vehicle

Although there is no information available regarding the motor, the O is said to achieve a maximum speed of 90 km/h (56 mph) and offers a range of up to 100 km (62 miles). It accommodates two passengers and provides 267 liters of trunk space. In summary, Luvly asserts that when compared to conventional electric cars, their vehicle should achieve up to an 80% reduction in energy consumption throughout the production, shipping, and distribution processes.

The Luvly O is intended mainly for neighborhood use

The O is expected to be available for approximately €10,000 (around US$10,554) in the future. If you’re considering a purchase, you can sign up for updates on the company’s website.

Håkan Lutz, the CEO and founder of Luvly, states that the company’s foundation rests on the belief that the adverse aspects associated with cars, such as their environmental impact, cost, hazards to pedestrians and fellow road users, and space inefficiency, can be reduced by blending contemporary technological solutions with forward-looking design.
