Google is marking the 10th anniversary of Google Photos by introducing a redesigned editor. This update includes AI-powered features like Reimagine and Auto Frame, which were previously exclusive to Pixel devices and are now available to a broader audience.

Transform Photos with Text-Powered AI Edits

Reimagine leverages generative AI to modify photo elements—such as objects and backgrounds—based on text prompts. For instance, users can swap a cloudy sky for “clear blue skies” with a simple command.

The Auto Frame feature offers suggestions for enhancing photo composition by cropping, expanding, or using generative AI to fill in empty areas.

Google says the redesigned editor offers smart suggestions and centralizes all editing tools for easier access. With the new “AI Enhance” feature, users can apply combined AI effects—like sharpening images and removing objects—for quick, efficient edits.

Smart Suggestions for Specific Photo Areas

Users can also tap specific areas of a photo to receive targeted editing suggestions, such as adjusting lighting or blurring the background.

The updated editor will begin rolling out globally to Android devices next month, with an iOS release planned later this year.

Additionally, Google announced a new way to share albums using QR codes, making it easier for nearby users to access and contribute to shared albums—perfect for events where printed codes can be used to let others view and upload photos.
