Google has introduced a new feature for the Android messaging app that adds sensitive content alerts and blocks the exchange of nude images.
New Update Blocks Nude Images with Warnings and Automatic Blurring
The company says the update actively blocks the sending and receiving of nude photos, warns users before they open them, and automatically blurs the image.
The company emphasizes that the smartphone itself performs all image analysis, keeping the process private and under the user’s control. This means Google does not require access to personal files or communications, and the system operates without transmitting identifiable information, message content, or detection results to the company’s servers.
By keeping the analysis on-device, the feature reinforces user privacy and reduces potential risks associated with data sharing or cloud storage, offering a layer of protection that aligns with broader security and confidentiality standards.
Alongside this feature, the app also includes additional security measures to fight scams, such as detecting fake job offers and flagging potentially harmful links.
Although Google tested some of these features months ago, it is only now fully rolling them out in the final version of the app. To use them, users must set Google Messages as the default messaging app on Android.
