Polaris Dawn is a multi-day orbital mission around Earth aboard a SpaceX Dragon capsule. While it’s a private mission, not a government one, it’s far more than a simple space tourism trip.

The mission will include the first-ever private spacewalk and conduct 38 scientific experiments focused on understanding the impacts of spaceflight and space radiation on human health.

Additionally, it will be the first mission since the Apollo program to briefly pass through the radioactive Van Allen Belt, doing so only for a short duration to ensure safety.
