Hyundai’s Three-Row Ioniq 9 EV is Designed with Comfort as a Top Priority

Hyundai has unveiled its Ioniq 9, an electric crossover SUV designed for families and camping enthusiasts. This new addition to the company’s EV lineup is scheduled for release in the US and other markets in 2025.

What makes this model particularly exciting are the thoughtful features designed for optimal comfort. Here’s an overview of what you can expect, depending on your seat.

Spacious and Comfortable Interior

The latest Ioniq features three rows of seating, accommodating six or seven passengers depending on the second-row configuration. Hyundai claims this SUV boasts the longest wheelbase of any model, measuring 3,130 mm (123.2 in). This allows for up to 1,899 mm (74.7 in) of headroom and 2,050 mm (80.7 in) of legroom when the second and third rows are combined. The first and second-row seats also fully recline with footrests, providing a comfortable place to relax while the car charges.

Additionally, four seats will include a Dynamic Touch Massage feature, offering pressure and vibration to enhance blood flow and circulation. The second-row seats can even swivel, allowing rear passengers to face each other when the vehicle is stationary.

Innovative Features for Comfort and Convenience

The “Universal Island” armrest between the front seats features a wireless charger, a storage compartment accessible from both the front and rear, and a unique design—it slides back to accommodate second-row passengers. Additionally, the vehicle boasts a panoramic sunroof that spans a considerable length from the front to the back of the cabin.

Enhanced Cabin Quietness

Hyundai has focused heavily on minimizing interior noise. To achieve this, the Ioniq 9 uses sound-absorbing tires to reduce tire resonance, adds structural reinforcements to lessen low-frequency noise on rough roads, and incorporates the Active Noise Control-Road system, introduced in 2020. This system functions similarly to noise-canceling technology found in headphones.

Premium Audio and Sound Experience

The Ioniq 9 is equipped with a 14-speaker Bose audio system that supports 5.1-channel surround sound. Additionally, it features e-Active Sound Design, which simulates various engine sounds that adjust based on your driving style.

The driver has access to a range of innovative features to control the Ioniq 9. These include a voice-controlled AI assistant, a 12-inch curved infotainment screen, an augmented reality head-up display that projects information onto the windshield, and digital rearview cameras with dedicated 7-inch displays inside the car.

Advanced Visibility Features for Safer Driving

The cameras also display blind spot views directly on the 12-inch digital gauge cluster, allowing you to see potential hazards without looking away. The central rearview mirror doubles as a screen, eliminating the need to strain to see what’s behind your large vehicle.

Additionally, the Ioniq 9 offers a range of Level 2 ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems), including auto steering and adaptive cruise control. It can also notify you if there’s anything behind the tailgate before you open it, and alert you when vehicles ahead of you start moving after being stationary in traffic for a while.

Hyundai promotes the Ioniq 9 as an ideal companion for outdoor adventures, equipping it with several convenient features for camping.

The car offers multiple 100-W fast-charging USB-C ports, allowing you to quickly charge your devices before heading out for a hike. The cargo area also includes a standard power outlet for powering appliances.

These power sources can run off the drive battery instead of the 12-V battery, so you don’t need to worry about draining power needed for the car’s systems or jumpstarting it. With bidirectional charging, the Ioniq 9 can even power your home using its 110.3-kWh battery pack.

Convenience for Rest and Relaxation

If you plan to fold down the rear seats and create a sleeping area, you can independently control the climate in the rear zone to minimize energy use. Additionally, there’s a button in the cargo area that lets you close the tailgate without having to get up from your comfortable spot.

When the Ioniq 9 arrives next year, you’ll have the option to choose from three powertrains, three tire sizes, multiple trim levels, and 16 exterior color choices.

Impressive Performance and Range

All three powertrains will provide over 300 miles (482 km) of range, though the more powerful Performance option offers slightly less. The base model delivers 215 hp (160 kW) and accelerates from 0-60 mph (0-100 km/h) in 8.5 seconds. The Performance variant boosts output to 420 hp (313 kW), achieving 0-60 mph in under five seconds.

The vehicle features a Tesla-compatible charger and can charge from 10% to 80% in just 24 minutes using a 350-kW charger.

While official pricing has not been revealed, Car and Driver estimates that the Ioniq 9 will start at around $62,000, with higher trims reaching up to $73,000. Given its extensive features, this could disrupt the family SUV market in 2025.
