Intricate Wooden Time Machine Vehicle Takes to the Streets
Created to embody the idea of a time machine, this remarkable wooden vehicle, crafted by a skilled woodworking engineer, is now captivating onlookers as it rattles and hums through the streets of Vietnam.
This unique vehicle is the creation of YouTube artisan Truong Van Dao, whose channel has gained immense popularity by featuring his wooden vehicle craftsmanship.
From Carving Classic Luxury Cars to Global Fame with a Small Wooden Ferrari Replica
Over the past three years, Dao’s journey has been extraordinary; he began by carving small replicas of classic luxury cars and supercars, quickly gaining global attention with a small wooden Ferrari replica his son could sit in and be pushed around.
The Ferrari was impressive, but Dao soon surpassed it with a finely detailed Bugatti Centodieci carving, approximately one-third to half-scale, also allowing his son to sit in it. This time, it featured functional steering and a small electric drivetrain for movement. Take a look:
With a solid fanbase in place, Dao’s projects grew larger and more intricate. He expanded beyond small-scale creations to build tanks, trains, scooters, and a variety of stunning mini-supercars. His work wasn’t limited to vehicles already on the market; he also crafted beautiful, functional replicas of innovative concept cars, including the Lamborghini Vision GT, Audi Skysphere, and Mercedes Vision AVTR:
But the project that truly captivated us transcends concept cars, venturing into the realm of pure mechanical fantasy art. Truong used generative AI for design inspiration and then constructed a basic metal frame with a steering and suspension system, along with a small electric drivetrain, before starting the woodwork.
He equipped the vehicle with substantial wooden front wheels featuring intricate, clockwork-like hubs, mirrored at the rear by large snail-shell hoops resembling inverted ram horns. The design also includes a curved, slatted wooden roof, as well as headlights and internal neon lights.
Then Truong took things to an eccentric level, incorporating a delightfully intricate series of cog-driven lever mechanisms at the front. When activated, these create a wobbling motion that Dr. Zoidberg would likely find fascinating. It’s reminiscent of the wind-powered Strandbeest sculptures that stroll along Dutch beaches but is electrically powered and unrelated to the vehicle’s actual movement, which is independently driven.
Is it overly complex? Certainly. Impractical? Without a doubt. Locals chuckle as they watch it trundle down the street, with Truong peering through a tiny slot above the gently moving alien-like mandibles for his forward view.
Uniquely captivating and bizarre, Truong’s creation has quickly become a favorite with his kids.
