LG Showcases Innovation with Stretchable Micro-LED Display
LG Display has unveiled what it claims is the world’s first stretchable screen capable of expanding by 50%, surpassing its 2022 prototype’s 20% stretch.
For over a decade, the company has refined flexible screens designed for applications like wearable tech, curved surfaces, and rollable TVs. The latest 12-inch display stretches up to 18 inches (~46 cm) while maintaining full RGB color, 100 pixels per inch, and improved durability through an enhanced silicon substrate and upgraded wiring.
Micro-LED LG Display Stretches 10,000+ Times Without Losing Quality
The micro-LED light source retains a 40 µm pixel pitch and can stretch over 10,000 times without losing image quality, even in extreme conditions.
“Stretchable displays are thin, lightweight, and adaptable to irregular surfaces like clothing and skin” LG said, highlighting their potential in industries such as fashion, wearables, and mobility.
At a Seoul event, LG showcased concepts including a curved automotive touch panel and a wearable display on a firefighter’s uniform providing real-time updates. The company emphasized the project’s role in advancing next-generation display technologies and strengthening local R&D infrastructure.
