Mosquitoes are experts at evading capture indoors, often vanishing after failed attempts to swat or catch them mid-air. The Bzigo Iris addresses this issue by tracking and pinpointing their location for you.

Created by the Israeli startup Bzigo, the Iris initially drew our attention back in 2020 when it was still a prototype. Four years later, the device is now available on the market. Here’s how it functions…

Positioned where it can view most of a room, the Iris uses a wide-angle camera and computer vision software to continuously scan the area for flying mosquitoes. Equipped with an array of infrared LEDs, it can even operate in the dark.

The device’s AI is reportedly not easily deceived by other small flying insects like moths or by airborne dust particles.

User’s Responsibility to Eliminate Mosquitoes

After a mosquito alert is issued, it’s the user’s responsibility to eliminate the insect. To assist with this, the package includes an electric swatter with a telescoping handle. While it would be ideal for the Iris to handle the mosquito-killing itself, it’s difficult to envision how it could do so without leaving laser scorch marks or small bullet holes in the walls.

If you’d like to purchase a Bzigo Iris, it is available on the company website for US$339. You can see it in action in the following video.
