Opera EVP Highlights AI’s Role in Enhancing Everyday Browsing with Aria in Opera Mini

AI is quickly becoming a key element of the everyday internet experience. Bringing Aria to Opera Mini is a natural extension of our most popular browser. With the integration of our AI assistant, Aria, we’re excited to see how AI can further improve the features our users rely on daily,” said Jørgen Arnesen, EVP Mobile at Opera.

Launched in 2005, Opera Mini helps users reduce data usage while browsing. The company asserts that even with the introduction of the new AI assistant, the app will continue to save data without increasing its size.

Opera’s Free Data Initiative in Africa Faces Setback Following Kenyan Regulatory Changes

Over the years, Opera has formed partnerships with local telecoms in Africa to provide free data to Opera Mini users. However, last year, the company had to end its free data program in Kenya after authorities issued a directive limiting ads on the browser’s bookmark tiles interface.

The company reported that Opera Mini has surpassed a billion downloads on Android and has over 100 million users globally. Data from app analytics firm Appfigures reveals that Opera Mini has garnered 7.1 million downloads worldwide this year.

In addition to introducing an AI assistant across all its pages, Opera has been testing AI features like controlling tabs with natural language commands and an operator that assists in completing tasks automatically.
