Research Emphasizes Hand Hygiene Changes Since Pandemic
Undoubtedly, the COVID-19 pandemic has caused a significant shift in the way the general public approaches hand hygiene and infection control. However, the vital question that arises is to what extent have people’s habits changed and whether any modifications have since decreased or become less intense.
The survey involving hand hygiene subjects
Cascades PRO conducted a survey in October 2021 to gain a deeper understanding of people’s perspectives on various hand hygiene-related topics, such as hand drying, handwashing duration, and workplace cleanliness. The survey involved 1,108 adults; You can find the complete set of 24 questions here. However, some of the significant findings from the survey are summarized below:
- Half of the survey participants mentioned that they have been more considerate of hand drying since the pandemic outbreak, whereas 42 percent stated that they had not changed their approach.
- Almost 66 percent of those who took the survey prefer a paper towel dispenser that can be operated without touching it. In addition, 93 percent of respondents reported using four towels or fewer when drying their hands after washing them.
- The survey found that 85 percent of respondents value adopting modern and sustainable practices and innovations in their workplace.
- Even though the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention advises people to wash their hands for at least 20 seconds, 70 percent of survey respondents reported washing their hands for a shorter duration.
- Only 33 percent of survey participants stated that they trust their children’s school to implement sufficient hygiene practices and policies.
- More than half (56 percent) of the survey respondents stated that they clean the surfaces in their workplaces more frequently than they did prior to the pandemic.
