Robo X: The Electric Supercar That Promises to Revolutionize the Market
Chinese company JiYue has unveiled a high-performance, long-range, and intelligent electric supercar: the Robo X. With the ability to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph (96 km/h) in just 1.9 seconds, a range of 400 miles (644 km) per charge, and a carbon monocoque frame, the model aims to join the exclusive club of cars achieving such acceleration milestones.
A Leap from Tech to Vehicle Production
Founded in 2021, JiYue emerged from a partnership between tech giant Baidu, known for its Robotaxis in China, and global automaker Geely. The brand was created to produce fully electric, self-driving vehicles, referred to as “robocars.” The Robo X is the latest example of this vision, blending artificial intelligence with race-level performance in a fully electric vehicle.
Prior to the Robo X, JiYue introduced the 07 model, a hatchback with a range of 545 miles (877 km), earlier this year. Now, the Robo X takes things further with a quad-motor, liquid-cooled propulsion system that delivers exceptional power and efficiency.
Impressive Performance and Cutting-Edge Technology
With an acceleration time of under 1.9 seconds from 0 to 60 mph, the Robo X competes with models like the Lucid Air Sapphire, which achieves the same feat in 1.89 seconds but offers a slightly higher range of 427 miles (687 km). According to JiYue, the supercar strikes a perfect balance between aerodynamics and high downforce, ensuring optimal performance on both tracks and roads.
However, the Robo X is not just about speed. It features advanced artificial intelligence technology to enhance drivability, safety, and efficiency. Baidu’s Apollo technology powers its intelligent driving system, making it the first road-legal electric supercar to use pure-vision ADAS technology for autonomous driving on racetracks. Additionally, it offers self-driving capabilities for public roads.
JiYue equipped the car with its AI voice model and the Simo virtual assistant, allowing drivers to access real-time information such as chassis dynamics, motor torque, and thermal management through voice commands. The system also enables control over various features, creating a personalized and connected driving experience.
Award-Winning Design and Lightweight Engineering
The Robo X design seamlessly integrates aerodynamics and aesthetics. Features like the split rear spoiler and the air intake atop the cabin highlight attention to detail, even if they echo elements of combustion-engine car design. The engineers constructed the vehicle’s lightweight body from carbon fiber and 5052 aluminum alloy to address the challenge of compensating for the weight of large battery packs.
The Robo X has already earned international recognition, winning awards such as the Red Dot Design Award 2024 and the German Design Award 2025.
Unveiled at the 2024 Guangzhou Auto Show, the Robo X is now available for pre-order in China with a deposit of RMB 49,999 (approximately $6,915). However, JiYue expects to begin mass production only in 2027, a timeline that many consider lengthy in today’s fast-paced automotive market.
Despite its innovations, the Robo X is unlikely to reach the U.S. market, particularly given proposed bans on Chinese connected vehicle technologies and components. Even so, the model showcases China’s ability to lead in both electric mobility and autonomous technology.
