Not everyone has space for a large desktop computer at home or in the office, making a mini-PC an appealing choice. Startup Miniproca has introduced a model on Kickstarter featuring octa-core processing power, Radeon graphics, and a multi-touch display.

The NUC-inspired Miniproca mini desktop computer stands out with its 7-inch hinged multi-touch monitor positioned at the top of the unit, which boasts a reported resolution of 1,024 x 600.

Versatile Mini Display for Work and Leisure

It serves as a versatile mini display for work or leisure, functioning as a secondary screen when connected to a full-size monitor (supporting up to three simultaneous display connections and 4K at 120 Hz). This setup allows users to monitor social feeds, stay connected with chats, run specific apps, and view system performance stats during gaming sessions, among other uses.

The Miniproca is built around a Ryzen octacore processor and Radeon graphics, and can be had with up to 32 GB of RAM and 2 TB of SSD storage

Adjustable Screen for Optimal Viewing

Users can adjust the screen from a horizontal position to 90 degrees, enabling them to set it at any angle for optimal viewing.

However, when users transport the device to different locations, as demonstrated on the campaign page, the touchscreen risks damage due to its exposed state without cover or protection, particularly when packed alongside other items such as keyboards, mice, cables, headphones, and the power supply.

Unlike many existing mini-PCs, the Miniproca does not feature a fanless design but includes vents on the sides and utilizes a “high-speed silent fan” to ensure efficient air cooling during heavy usage.

At its core, an AMD Ryzen 9 6900HX octa-core processor handles operations, beginning at a base clock speed of 3.3 GHz and able to boost up to 4.9 GHz as needed for more demanding tasks. It pairs with Radeon RX 680M graphics, featuring 12 stream processors and operating at a clock speed of 2,400 MHz.

However, the system benefits from up to 32 GB of DDR5 RAM clocked at 4,800 MHz and provides storage choices including 512 GB, 1 TB, or 2 TB of PCIe 4.0 solid-state storage.

User-Upgradeable Components and Operating System Choice

Users have the option to upgrade the RAM and SSD themselves, though it’s uncertain whether this would void the 1-year warranty provided by the manufacturer. Additionally, backers of the campaign can choose between Windows 10 or 11 for their operating system preference in the post-campaign survey.

Connectivity includes HDMI 2.1, DisplayPort 1.4, USB 2.0, 3.2, Type-C, dual Ethernet LAN ports, Bluetooth 5.2, and Wi-Fi 6E. However, it does not feature built-in speakers, so users will need to connect headphones via Bluetooth or the 3.5 mm audio jack.

The hinged touchscreen monitor can be adjusted to any angle from flat to vertical.

The Miniproca features an aluminum-alloy housing, measuring 175 x 137 x 55 mm (6.89 x 5.39 x 2.16 inches) and weighing 855 g (30 ounces). Anti-slip strips underneath the base ensure stability on the desktop.

Kickstarter pledges currently start at $699 for an 8GB/512GB configuration, with a 32GB/2TB unit priced at $919. Production takes place in China, and shipping costs are additional, estimated at approximately $15-20 for delivery to the US, with an expected arrival time of up to 2 weeks. Similar to all crowdfunding projects, it’s advisable to proceed with caution, but if the current campaign stays on schedule, deliveries are anticipated to begin in October.
