FireFly asserts that this colossal machine can cover 25 acres (10.1 hectares) of grass before requiring a two-hour recharge at its base. To provide a more relatable comparison, that’s equivalent to 18.9 NFL football fields. Unfortunately, the company has not commented on the quantity of grass clippings, equivalent to Olympic swimming pools, that will be generated.
Comparing Autonomous Lawn Mower Efficiency
However, it’s stated that this autonomous mega-mower can handle approximately 7 acres (2.8 hectares or 5.3 NFL football fields) within an hour. This impressive output is primarily due to its substantial hundred-inch width.
Alternatively, you could outdo it using a 144-inch eXmark Lazer priced at $76,299, capable of covering 11.5 acres (4.7 hectares or 8.7 football fields) every hour. However, this option would come with the drawback of incurring roughly 7.7 times the cost for the diesel fuel consumed by its powertrain compared to the electricity used by the FireFly. Additionally, maintenance expenses would also be more than double.
Of course, you’d also need to compensate an individual donning a baseball cap and loose shirt, and such services don’t come cheap. Moreover, someone would likely need to navigate the area, reposition soccer goals, pick up glass bottles, and ensure nobody is napping on a picnic rug that might accidentally end up mowed.
