The Three Big Problems with AI Clones Imperfection
Beyond all the technological knowledge available there is a trend to use AI as a tool to clone people. Imagine this: Picture having a digital copy of yourself. This clone would appear, speak, and act exactly like you, all made by using advanced computer technology. It would imitate your every move and behavior with uncanny accuracy. While this might seem exciting, how would you react to such a situation?
Enjoy the Benefits of AI
Oh, Artificial intelligence is very good, the best tech advancement yet, and inevitable in our lives. However, we must learn to cooperate with its positive and negative sides. To take the best of it.
It has a rich positive side such as providing more time for yourself, more work done at a fast speed, less brain power usage, data presentation, data management, reducing human error, automating repetitive tasks and processes, helping in rapid decision making, providing digital assistance, medical assistance, these all and much more facilitates our lives but also the misusage points a massive danger to mankind.
The Three Main Dangers with AI Copy
Research made at the University of British Columbia focuses on this exact question. We are looking into the advancements in deep-learning technologies like interactive deepfake applications, voice conversion, and virtual actors, which allow us to create digital copies of people’s appearances and behaviors.
There are three important things to take caution about AI clones:
- People have a fear of AI clones because they can be used to harm and replace someone’s identity, which makes them feel bad, also called, Doppelganger-phobia.
- Making copies of a person while they are still alive can make them feel like their sense of self and uniqueness is being threatened–Identity Fragmentation.
- When someone interacts with a clone of a person they know well, there’s a risk of either misunderstanding the real person or becoming too attached to the clone-Living Memories.
These findings help us talk about ethical issues, and the importance of respecting someone’s identity and authenticity, and give us ideas on how to design AI clones more responsibly.
Joanna Stern
Joanna Stern, a Senior Personal Tech Columnist, came up with the idea of cloning herself for 24 hours and found that: Companies such as Synthesia can be help, One bank´s voice biometric system can be used by AI twin but is still hard to use AI copy on TkTok.
