Victorinox Combines Swiss Army Multitool Versatility into a Fixed-Blade Knife
The small blade found on a Swiss Army knife cannot adequately substitute for a full-sized fixed blade when it comes to essential tasks in the wilderness. Conversely, a fixed-blade knife is not suitable for independently starting a fire or delicately removing a tick that has embedded itself in your skin. Victorinox, the official Swiss Army knife manufacturer, leverages its exceptional multitool expertise to incorporate this multifunctional capability into the newly designed Venture Pro fixed-blade knife.
Instead of incorporating additional tools within the handle, as is the case with traditional Swiss Army knives, it integrates fire-starting tools and other features into the carrying system. This approach maintains a clean and seamless grip on the knife while introducing a few functions that could potentially save your life or simply assist you in emulating survival scenarios like those seen on “Man vs. Wild.”
The Versatile Venture Collection from Swiss Craftsmanship
During the summer, Victorinox unveiled a comprehensive Venture collection. Created and crafted in Switzerland, this fresh series seeks to enhance the bushcraft capabilities of its users by combining knives with additional features.
In our modest view, the standout feature within the Venture Collection is undoubtedly the Venture Pro knife, which includes a carrying system that consists of a sheath and a belt carry holder compatible with MOLLE. Although it may appear slightly cumbersome for individuals who opt for carrying the knife solely in a sheath, the belt holder also conveniently accommodates integrated tools: a fire starter, a pair of tweezers, and a pressurized ballpoint pen.
The Pro’s ability to start fires is further demonstrated by the 4.1-inch (10.5 cm) full-tang blade itself, which features a groove on the handle intentionally crafted to be used with a bow drill as an additional method for igniting fires. After sparking a fire, the sheath also serves a dual purpose as a blow tube to assist in fostering the fire into a complete and crackling blaze.
Enhancing Fire-Starting and Drilling Capabilities in the Venture Pro Knife
The tang extension located at the bottom of the Venture Pro knife’s handle has a hexagonal opening that can be used for attaching a lanyard, potentially crafted from fire-starting paracord, in order to enhance the efficiency of the fire-starting procedure. This opening also pairs effectively with the flat drill bit included in the optional Venture Pro Kit, transforming the knife into a proficient hand drill.
While the Venture Pro may not offer the full array of features found in a traditional Swiss Army knife, it serves as a practical means to incorporate additional functionalities into the fixed-blade knife you’re already carrying. It is available for purchase at $115, which includes the sheath, belt holder, fire starter, tweezers, and ballpoint pen. Additionally, the Venture Pro Kit can be acquired for an additional $50, providing two sharpening stones, the flat drill bit, and a storage pouch.
