Today, Xiaomi, a Chinese technology giant, introduced a set of smart glasses aimed at promoting an active lifestyle, with a price tag of 2,499 yuan ($370) aimed at potential customers.

The product is named Mijia Glasses Camera and resembles Google Glass in design. It includes one display and two cameras, with a 50 MP main camera and an eight MP periscope camera. Xiaomi claims that the periscope camera allows for approximately 15x zoom and up to 100 minutes of uninterrupted recording.

Sparrow News reports that the smart glasses contain a single Sony Micro OLED display with a maximum brightness of 3,000 nits and a pixel density of 3,281 ppi. The camera/display component can be attached to a pair of glasses frames or used independently.

These smart glasses are powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon eight-core processor and come with 3GB of RAM, 32GB of storage, dual Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth 5.0 capabilities. The glasses are equipped with a 1,020 mAh battery that can be charged magnetically at 10W. Xiaomi claims that the battery can charge from 0% to 80% in just 30 minutes.

Xiaomi is marketing these glasses primarily as a camera device for capturing daily activities. Nonetheless, it is undeniable that the bulky and unwieldy design may make them uncomfortable for prolonged use.

The advertisement does not appear to emphasize the advantages of the heads-up display (HUD). However, the company states in marketing information that the device is able for real-time translation, displaying “AR effects,” screencasting, and “different features will also be online in the subsequent OTA update,” Sparrow News reports.

Initially, Xiaomi is offering discounted pre-orders for consumers in China, priced at 2,499 yuan ($370). Following the pre-order period, which is scheduled to begin on August 3rd, the product will be sold for 2,699 yuan ($400).

It is unclear if Xiaomi has plans to market the Mijia Glasses Camera outside of China, but given the company’s ambitious nature, they may do so in the future. While not a household brand in North America, Xiaomi is a top five global smartphone manufacturer, offering its competitive spec ‘d array of handsets in Europe and most of Asia.

However, it cannot be denied that the current version of these glasses is considerably bulkier compared to the sleek smart glasses prototypes that the company had previewed earlier this year (as shown below), which resembled the size of regular glasses. These glasses are certainly less inconspicuous than Meta’s Ray-Ban Stories, which do not feature any display and only allow for 30-second recording sessions with a relatively low 5 MP sensor.
