Bluetooth Tracker Locates Prime Fishing Spots
The Swedish-manufactured Probe device is crafted to assist anglers in improving their catch rates. It achieves this by tracking their lure as it descends into the depths of the water, documenting the depth and conditions at which fish take the bait.
Revolutionizing Angling Technology
Once cast into the water alongside the lure, the Probe’s integrated sensors promptly begin measuring and recording various factors like cast length, water depth, temperature, underwater lighting, and movement speed through the water, all discreetly.
When a fish bites the lure, the device records the distinct pull on the line, capturing details such as the depth and other relevant factors of the incident. Once retrieved to the surface and within Bluetooth range of the user’s smartphone, the Probe transfers its recorded data to an application on the phone.
Utilizing the Probe App for Optimal Casting and Lure Depth
Through the app, users can then determine the appropriate casting distance and lure depth for their subsequent casts. Considering factors such as water temperature, lighting conditions, and weather, which the app also records, is essential as they can influence the depth at which fish are present during subsequent visits to the same location.
Due to Bluetooth signals having limited transmission capabilities through water, the Probe cannot provide anglers with real-time depth readings. Instead, the app estimates the current depth based on the device’s sinking rate during previous casts. When the lure (presumably) reaches the target depth, the user receives a notification through the app, prompting them to begin reeling it in.
If the Probe goes into production, pledging €104 (approximately US$113) will secure one unit, while we anticipate setting the retail price at €149 ($162). You can observe the device in action in the video provided below.
It’s notable that smartLure’s Model Zero, successful through Kickstarter, offers similar features. However, users have limitations on using a designated lure with it, unlike the Probe, which accommodates any third-party lure.
Other gadgets aimed at giving anglers a technological advantage include the Chasing F1 Pro aquatic drone, which utilizes an underwater camera to indicate the fish’s whereabouts, and the rod-mounted Smart Rod Sensor, which records the location and conditions at the time of strikes.
