Dyson Has Slimmed Down Its Latest Vacuum To The Size Of A Broom Handle

Dyson
Dyson claims its new PencilVac is the world’s thinnest cordless vacuum, and based on its appearance, that seems accurate. It’s also the most powerful model the company has released so far.
The PencilVac has a diameter of under 1.5 inches (3.8 cm), similar to its Supersonic hair dryer. Unlike other Dyson models, it doesn’t feature a large dustbin on the handle. Instead, the compact motor fits within the slim pipe and spins at 140,000 RPM to deliver strong suction.
Advanced Filtration Technology for Efficient Dust and Debris Collection
The PencilVac incorporates smart technology. Unlike Dyson’s bulkier cordless vacuums that use centrifugal force to separate dust and debris while allowing clean air to pass through to the filters, Wired notes out that the PencilVac directs air and dust into a narrow tube at high speed through a two-stage filtration system. The airflow pushes smaller particles through the mesh and onto a second filter, while larger debris is collected in the bin.

Maximized Capacity and Easy Disposal with Compressed Debris
The powerful airflow compresses the debris as it moves up through the tube to the top of the dust chamber, maximizing its capacity. This enables the small bin to hold five times more dust and debris than its 0.08-liter size suggests. Additionally, the compressed waste is easy to empty with minimal dust escaping when you dispose of it in the trash.

The PencilVac features two sets of conical brush bars that rotate 360 degrees, providing excellent maneuverability around furniture. The conical design prevents hair from tangling, allowing it to roll off the bars into a ball on the floor, where you can easily collect it.

Enhanced Cleaning Power and Convenience with Dual Lasers and Extended Battery Life
The cleaner head also includes dual lasers to help you easily spot debris on the floor, and it magnetically attaches to a flat charging dock. With the built-in battery on Eco mode, you can expect up to 30 minutes of use, while two more powerful modes will drain the battery faster. However, an optional accessory battery pack can extend your cleaning time.

Dyson
Considering its capacity and battery life, the PencilVac is likely to appeal more to smaller homes without wall-to-wall carpeting. It’s currently available only in Japan, priced at ¥84,920 (about US$590), which is similar to the Dyson V15 Detect Absolute. It will be released in Korea soon and is expected to arrive in the US next year.
