Xiaomi’s Autonomous Factory Will Produces 10M+ Phones Annually
A fully automated “smart factory” in Changping, Beijing, manufactures Xiaomi’s upcoming foldable phones, the MIX Fold 4 and MIX Flip, at a rate of about one every three seconds, 24/7.
This 80,000-square-meter (860,000-sq-ft) facility, Xiaomi’s new Changping production facility, operates without human intervention thanks to its 11 fully automated production lines.
Xiaomi’s proprietary “Pengpai Intelligent Manufacturing Platform” powers the factory and serves as its autonomous “brain.”
This platform enables the factory to independently diagnose and resolve equipment issues, optimize production processes, and manage operations from raw material procurement to product delivery. Xiaomi claims this self-improving system has left its colleagues “blown away.”
Compared to earlier “lights out” factories, Xiaomi’s facility represents a significant advancement in autonomous manufacturing capabilities.
While fully automated factories have existed for decades, Xiaomi’s system can autonomously evolve and enhance its operations over time.
Xiaomi’s cutting-edge smart factory, with its meticulously clean environment maintained by micron-level dust removal systems, requires only a small human presence in the facility’s “war room” due to its high level of automation.
This state-of-the-art factory is well-positioned to help Xiaomi achieve its ambitious production goals and uphold quality standards as it expands its smartphone business.
