Raising a child is anything but easy, particularly during the early years when parents encounter ongoing challenges. However, a survey by the American website Today.com found that for many women, their husbands—not their children—are the primary source of stress.

Among the 7,000 mothers surveyed, the average stress level was 8.5 out of 10. Notably, 46% reported that their spouses cause them more stress than their kids do.

Lack of Partner Support Adds to Mothers’ Daily Stress

One of the main factors, cited by 75% of women, is the lack of support from their partners in caring for the children and managing household tasks. For 20% of respondents, this absence of help is the primary source of daily frustration.

Mothers often believe their primary role is to care for their children, so they naturally turn to their husbands for support. However, fathers tend to take on a secondary or ‘supporting’ role and don’t always provide the level of help mothers anticipate,” therapist Hal Runkel told Today.

Runkel explained that the issue lies not with men themselves, but with marriage, which can be inherently stressful. “Marriage is a far more challenging relationship than parenthood,” he noted.
