HomeBase USA has deployed Simbe Robotics’ Store Intelligence platform—featuring the Tally autonomous shelf-scanning robot—at its Copperas Cove, Texas, and Laramie, Wyoming locations. The Laramie launch marks Tally’s first deployment in Wyoming.

With large-format stores and tens of thousands of SKUs spanning categories like hardware, lumber, and lawn care, HomeBase faces complex inventory challenges that benefit from automation.

Simbe Scales Rapidly Following Award Recognition and $50M Funding Round

Simbe, recognized with a 2024 RBR50 Robotics Innovation Award for deploying Tally across all 237 BJ’s Wholesale Club locations, is expanding rapidly. In October 2024, the company raised $50 million in a Series C round to scale production and support. HomeBase currently operates fewer than a dozen stores.

Store teams often spend up to 30 hours a week on manual inventory tasks—time-intensive, error-prone work that’s also among employees’ least favorite duties and a leading cause of turnover.

Tally automates this process by scanning shelves several times daily to detect out-of-stocks, pricing issues, and misplaced products. The system delivers real-time, shelf-level data through a mobile app and dashboard, helping staff quickly prioritize key issues.

Simbe Technology Drives Accuracy, Efficiency, and Improved Customer Experience

According to Simbe, this technology enables faster, more accurate decision-making, leading to fewer out-of-stocks, more efficient labor, and a better shopping experience.

Inventory accuracy is critical to our business,” said Mark Dremel, district manager at HomeBase. “Tally gives our teams the insights they need to perform at their best. This pilot is a promising step toward enhancing store operations and customer experience, and we’re excited to see its impact as we grow.

Tally enables store teams to resolve issues before they impact sales, allowing staff to focus more on assisting customers. In a Simbe survey, 90% of store managers reported that Tally simplifies their work, and 99% of shoppers said they are equally or more likely to return after seeing robots in the store.

Tally Designed for Seamless In-Store Integration and Measurable Impact

Simbe Robotics stated that, unlike other solutions, Tally is built to seamlessly integrate into the retail environment. The robot safely navigates around customers and pauses in crowded aisles. According to the company, its platform has helped stores achieve:

  • Up to 98% on-shelf availability
  • 90% pricing accuracy
  • More than 50 labor hours per store each week redirected to higher-value tasks
  • Up to 2% increase in profit margins and a 15X return on investment

Simbe added that its technology is used by top retailers across grocery, club, alcohol, home improvement, and farm supply sectors in nine countries.
